You know that saying, “Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper”? Well, it seems I may have taken it a little too literally. In fact, I think I’ve eaten like a king, his court, all his loyal subjects...and then some!
From comforting local dishes to trendy café creations, breakfast has become my favourite way to explore the food scene. Here’s a roundup of six standout spots that have made my mornings truly regal.
1. Haji Café
A true institution, Haji Café is a breakfast experience like no other. Located in Manama Souk, down a tiny little alleway. Makes sure you sit outdoors and soak up all the hustle and bustle. I'm a fan of tomato and egg, a local dish. As well as their cram and honey, perfect for dipping you khubz (traditional bread in). Sweet toothed diners will enjoy the Balaleet (sweet saffron noodles with eggs).

2. Zimari
A Greek bakery with a new dine-in area added, so you can order a strong coffee and sandwich while enjoying some people watching. Make sure to try the Kouloures, sesame 'bread rings' - aka Greek bagels!

3. Lumee
Lumee offers breakfast with a twist, fusing traditional local flavours with modern flair. Their creative takes on breakfast staples are perfect for those who want to try something familiar yet fresh. I am a big fan of the Lumee brand! Make sure to try the creamy Turkish Eggs.

4. Naseef Café
Naseef Café is a firm favourite in Bahrain, for residents and tourists alike. For gorgeous views head to the Muharraq location with views of the water. Order their 'breakfast set' with all the goodies included; like ful, chickpeas, falafel and potatoes. If you are a halloumi fan like me, then order a side of halloumi cheese and of course some Mehyawa bread (my weakness!)

5. Goodness Café
On the ground floor of a smallish mall, nestled near the parking lot, you'll find Goodness Café; a cozy, inviting gem brimming with charm. The space is thoughtfully decorated with intriguing art, handmade crafts, and an undeniable warmth. Gerard, the ever-smiling owner, along with his lovely staff, instantly makes you feel right at home. Be sure to sample their freshly baked delights, like their perfectly scrambled eggs in a croissant or other tempting treats that make this café a must-visit.

6. Hopscotch
For a breakfast that feels indulgent yet casual, Hopscotch is always a winner. Known for its playful vibe, outstanding baked goods and great coffee, this spot offers delicious bites on every visit (I should know, I've been going for years!).
