Magical Farm Dinner


I was overjoyed to discover that Chef Susy (of L’Orto & N’Ovo) has recently opened a new kitchen/dining room at her farm, Roots & Shoots.

I was invited to a friend’s birthday here and traipsing there on a dark, humid night walked into a beautifully lit, contemporary dining room cum kitchen.

Susy’s vision is to host private supper clubs and classes in this space, and just a few weeks after opening is already inundated with reservations (not to my surprise at all!)

Our group of 10 were welcomed into the beautiful room and a surprise menu was detailed to us, before the dishes started coming out.

All we had to do was inform Susy of any dietary requirements in advance and with my group’s quite stringent list of no garlic, onion, dairy or gluten (!) she still somehow came up with a magical multi-course meal full of delicious dishes, catering to these exact demands.

Our menu included:

  • Homemade bread basket; including focaccia
  • Salmon tartare with yuzu dressing, rocket and black sesame
  • Butter lettuce and macerated cherry tomatoes with honeyed carrot ginger dressing
  • Oven roasted sea bass with olive oil, black lemon pepper
  • Miso veal loin with shimeji & shitake mushrooms on soft polenta
  • Crispy confit potatoes
  • Fire roasted veggies with vegan marinated feta

We brought our own alcohol and a birthday cake for our friend. Overall it was an excellent evening and one I hope to do many more times. It is perfect for booking for birthdays, private dinners with friends, celebrations or just to do something different.
