Traditional Eats: Muharraq's Al Sedra

It’s not every day you find yourself sitting in a charming garden, overlooking a UNESCO World Heritage site. But that’s exactly what you’ll experience at Al Sedra, a new spot nestled right next to the Pearling Path Visitors Center in Muharraq.

After spending the afternoon wandering through the beautifully restored neighbourhood, soaking in the history of Bahrain’s pearling heritage, Al Sedra was the perfect spot to refuel and reflect.

Exploring the Pearling Path

If you’re like me, anything with a mention of pearls or oysters stops you in your tracks. So, naturally, a visit to the newly restored Siyadi House, also known as the Pearl Museum, was non-negotiable. This architectural gem offers a glimpse into the world of Bahrain’s pearling past.

The entire neighbourhood around the Pearling Path is a joy to explore. Wander through the winding alleyways, admire the restored houses, and take a moment to rest in one of the small shaded squares where birdsong fills the air. There’s something incredibly peaceful about it, a perfect blend of history and quiet charm.

Dining at Al Sedra

By the time we made it to Al Sedra, I was ready to eat. Tucked away next to the Visitors Center, this spot offers a relaxing outdoor area. The menu offers a range of Bahraini dishes that are perfect for feasting on.

Here’s what we ordered:

  • Aubergine (Eggplant)
  • Fried Tikka: My first time trying fried tikka dish, and it was a revelation...crispy, flavourful, and indulgent!
  • Bahraini Kebab
  • Samboosa: Cheese parcels that delight!
  • Nakhi (Chickpeas):
  • Queema (Minced Meat
