On a recent road trip between Florida and Virginia (16-hour drive!) I got to spend a night somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit, Savannah, Georgia.
You may know it as the setting of Forrest Gump, or for me, it was the home of the #1 restaurant in the world I wanted to visit. Sadly that restaurant (The Fat Radish) closed in early 2022 but I am still glad I got to visit this foodie and historic hub even if only for an overnight stopover.
Brochu’s Family Tradition seemed like the perfect low-key, good food spot I wanted after a longggg drive and it certainly didn’t disappoint. We managed to nab a spot at the bar, watching the bustling tables full of friends and families tuck into some great looking dishes. We chose the peach mignonette oysters to start (as good as they sound!).
Then tucked into Shrimp Bravas with pimento chips (pictured below right) and my new favourite comfort dish, Dirty Rice; grilled ‘bits’ of chicken, egg yolk, trinity.
If you are heading to Savannah I highly recommend stopping by Brochu’s for a bite.
Spread Bagelry on W State Street. Dare I say it, one of the best bagels I have ever had. I chose a smoked salmon and cream cheese on salted egg bagel. It was truly to die for (though the prices were not!). An excellent choice for car eating as we continued on the road trip.
Have you been to Savannah before? Share your recommendations and tips! As I plan on visiting for longer next time, to explore this beautiful, historic city.
