A reader recently asked me for my top eats around Virginia Beach and Norfolk, and I'm excited to share my favourites so far. There are still many places on my list to try, but these spots have truly won my heart.
1. Love Song
I fell in love with this aptly named bijou spot in Virginia Beach. Grab a seat at the bar, order an excellent cocktail, and dive into their short but exquisitely curated menu. During our visit, we were opted for apps and loved the chicken liver mousse and salt cod fritters. we discovered that they fly in their baguettes from New York, and were blown away by the attention to detail throughout our evening experience.

2. Esoteric
A restaurant with its own kitchen garden? Sign me up! Esoteric’s ever-changing menu highlights seasonal favorites, each with a unique twist. The team are friendly, plus the drinks perfectly complement the menu, making it an easy crowd-pleaser.

3. Café Stella
If I’m going to sit and work from somewhere, let it be Café Stella! The chilled vibe, sprawling indoor seating, and cozy outdoor tables create the perfect backdrop for their menu that hits every spot. From their outstanding breakfast burritos (to which I might be addicted) to lunch bowls, sandwiches, and more, there’s a good reason why this place is so popular.

4. Press 626
Nestled in the charming Ghent neighbourhood, Press 626 serves elegant dishes that are sure to delight. We love the Victorian era building, which adds charm to your meal from the moment you step in. From seafood, to steak, whatever you choose from their seasonally changing menu is sure to be a hit. Look out for special menus, events and tastings that they might have going on too.

5. Pendulum Fine Meats
What’s not to love about a butcher that serves excellent burgers? A meal at Pendulum Fine Meats is always a great idea, whether you’re enjoying a range of sandwiches, a beer, or a glass of wine. Don't forget to pick up some goodies on your way out, so you can cook up some excellent dishes when you get back home too.
